Ingredient
- Beef hot dogs – (two 15-oz. packages) I use Oscar Meyer. If possible don’t skimp on the hot dogs, a good beef hot dog has MUCH more flavor than a chicken hot dog.
- Ketchup
- Barbecue sauce
- Brown sugar
- Bourbon – I use a local bourbon whiskey called Broken Top Whiskey
- Worcestershire sauce
- Red pepper flakes
Steps
- Step One – Start by cutting the hotdogs at an angle into fourths.
- Step Two – Then place the sliced hot dogs in the slow cooker.
- Step Three – Add the wet ingredients: ketchup, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, bourbon, Worcestershire sauce, and red pepper flakes. Stir until well-combined. Place the lid on the slow cooker.
- Step Four – Cook on LOW for 5 hours. Stirring occasionally. Note, that 5 hours is not too long to cook these. The hot dogs will soak up the bourbon and the sauce and turn darker. They will not shrivel. They only get better the longer they cook.
Tips
- While bourbon is the perfect choice for these slow cooker hot dogs if you have beer instead, that will work fine.
Beer gives the hot dogs a more mild flavor that some people might even prefer. You can use any beer that you would normally drink in this recipe in place of the bourbon.
